History

The South Cotswold Big Sing Group's first project was Verdi's Requiem in Tewkesbury Abbey in 2011.  This was followed by Bach's Mass in B minor Workshop in 2012 and Big Sing in 2013 of Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony, also in Tewksbury Abbey.  These were all with the late Nigel Perrin.

In 2013, we also joined in Mahler's 8th (Symphony of a Thousand) at the Colston Hall (as it was then) in Bristol.  In 2014, we held a Workshop of Bach's St John's Passion with Nigel Perrin.

In 2015 and 2016 we held a Workshop and Big Sing of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius with Brian Kay in Gloucester Cathedral.

In 2017 and 2018, Adrian Partington led us in a Workshop and Big Sing of Berlioz Requiem.  Covid then intervened and we resumed with a Workshop and Big Sing in 2022 featuring Mahler's 8th Symphony.

In 2023, we had a Workshop of the Berlioz Te Deum, which we plan to sing in Gloucester Cathedral in 2025.  In 2024, we held a Workshop and Big Sing of Holst's Hymn of Jesus, Poulenc's Gloria and Messiaen's O sacrum convivium.

The 2022 and 2024 performances in Gloucester Cathedral were part of the Cheltenham Music Festival.
